FMEA Table Reference

The Physical Architecture FMEA and EPBS Architecture FMEA tables expose different analysis levels.

Physical Architecture FMEA table

The table provides these main columns; additional columns can also be shown.

Column Meaning or editing behavior
First column System, subsystem, or component name.
Failure Mode ID Identifier of the failure mode.
Failure Mode Name or label of the failure mode.
Is Observable True when the failure mode can be detected; False for a latent failure. Associate a detection method when set to True.
Detection Method Applicable method selected from the previously defined detection-method literals.
Failure Rate Failure rate for the item. Double-click the cell and use the pencil icon to enter it manually.
Failure Effect Local effect in the same layer or realized effect propagated to another layer.
Review Free-text field for relevant review comments.

Failure-rate display

For a component in the Physical Architecture FMEA, the failure rate is:

  • black when it is the sum of related failure rates that cause the failure under evaluation;
  • red when the failure rate was entered manually.

When opening failure-mode properties from the project tree, use the pencil icon next to the rate. Otherwise, the defined failure rate is not displayed.

EPBS Architecture FMEA table

This table appears under the Piece-Part Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) label in Capella.

Column Meaning or editing behavior
First column Part failure and its relevant failure modes.
CI Identifier Configuration-item identifier.
Part Number Part number.
Device Type Device type.
Failure ID Part-failure identifier.
Part Failure Part-failure name.
Part Failure Percentage Percentage assigned to the part failure.
Part Failure Rate Failure rate assigned to the part failure.
Description Description of the part-failure effects.
Part Failure Detection Method Applicable detection method selected from configured literals.
Failure Effect One or more local or realized failure modes associated through the Failure Effect Selector.
FM ID Identifier of a selected failure mode.
Effect Description Local effect in the same layer or realized effect propagated to another layer.
Detection Method Applicable method selected from the previously defined detection-method literals.
Modes System mode in which the failure mode is evaluated.
