Functional Hazard Analysis¶
A Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA) identifies and describes failure conditions for the system of interest. In ATICA, an FHA is performed in Capella's System Analysis layer.
Choose the analysis scope¶
FHA is applicable only in the System Analysis layer. Whether that layer represents the aircraft or a subsystem is a modeling decision based on the project structure and use case:
- For an Aircraft FHA (AFHA), the System Analysis layer represents the aircraft as the system of interest.
- For a System FHA (SFHA), the System Analysis layer represents the system or subsystem being analyzed as the system of interest.
- For an end-to-end use case that progresses from aircraft to systems and subsystems, define the system-to-subsystem approach before starting the analyses. In each model, perform the FHA in its System Analysis layer and make the system-of-interest boundary explicit.
For guidance on structuring and transitioning an end-to-end Capella model, review the Capella System-to-Subsystem Transition documentation.
Workflow¶
- Complete the prerequisites.
- Prepare the functional breakdown.
- Configure failure types, flight phases, stakeholders, and severity classifications.
- Create and populate the FHA table.
- If needed, export the FHA to a document.
For the table hierarchy and fields, see the FHA table reference.
